Movieguide® previously reported on Netflix's gaming strategy.
Netflix's games library is mobile-only, but the company hopes to increase its popularity by expanding to games that can be played on TVs and computers.
Additionally, the company now helps gamers find content that's right for them by customizing game recommendations for users, rather than just suggesting the latest games added to their library.
Netflix clearly believes in its gaming platform and sees it as an endeavor worth pursuing: The company has already spent an estimated $1 billion on the service, even though only 1% of its subscribers game on a daily basis.
Fans have been anticipating THE DRAGON PRINCE: XADIA for a long time, with Wonderstorm starting development on the game back in 2019.
“The game will be part of the Wonderstorm: The Dragon Prince expanded universe, which has been in development alongside the main show over the past few years,” What's on Netflix reported on Tuesday. “Two board games (one of which is Tales of Xadia), companion books, comics, novels, toys and collectibles have been released as part of this expanded universe.”
Tales of the Shire will be Netflix's first Lord of the Rings project, with Amazon Prime acquiring Rings of Power and Warner Bros. producing a new Lord of the Rings film for release in 2026.
“Netflix will have exclusive access to the mobile version of the game, but the game will also be released on a number of other platforms. However, it won't be available for free as part of a Netflix subscription,” What's on Netflix reported about “Tales of the Shire.”
