Londyn Jones hits UCLA's second three to stop the bleeding. Half of the Bruins' attempts come from beyond the arc, but they are shooting 11.8% from the field. They need a few to start falling and give Lauren Betts a little more space in the paint.
End of 2Q: LSU 34, UCLA 27
The Tigers entered the break with a 7-point lead thanks to a 3-pointer by Londyn Jones just before the end of the first half.
With just over two minutes left in the second quarter, the Tigers lead by eight points. They look a lot like the defending champions early in this match. Flau'jae Johnson already has 13.
If UCLA doesn't start hitting shots, it's going to be a long day. Gabriela Jacks has been the best Bruin on the court so far today, making 3 of 7 and making just 3 of her team's 10 attempts. They are winning battles on the boards (6-1 for offensive rebounds) but can't capitalize.
The Tigers extended their lead to five points on Frauge Johnson's spin finish. She cooks early in the morning in Albany.
UCLA failed to hit a 3 in eight attempts. The Bruins are averaging 7 of 21.5 shots per game. Londyn Jones missed all four games. Instead, it's a tied game going into the second quarter.
End of 1st quarter: LSU 15, UCLA 15
As expected, it was a very even game until the first quarter. Frauge Johnson has made eight of the Tigers' 15 points thus far.
UCLA will try to lure Angel Reese into taking mid-range shots, which is not her forte. Flau'jae Johnson, the reason LSU got this far, has already made two threes to get the Tigers off to a hot start. UCLA led 8-7 at the first official timeout.
Now for the first game of the day: No. 2 UCLA vs. No. 3
We're checking in here from Albany, which has strong star power in the Albany 2 area. The arena, which has a capacity of about 15,000 people and is not yet full, is scheduled for the Iowa-Colorado game. Lots of Iowa gear and LSU purple here today.
