MANHATTAN (KSNT) – New information was released Friday following a cybersecurity incident that affected a Kansas hospital.
Hospital network Ascension announced on Thursday, May 9, that a “cybersecurity event” had occurred and that it was investigating the situation. Ascension operates one hospital in the Manhattan area of Kansas. Now, in a new statement, the health care provider says it is “working around the clock” to restore services.
“Safe care of our patients remains our top priority as we respond to this cybersecurity incident. We are actively supporting ministries that continue to provide safe patient care with procedures. Patients are expected to utilize downtime procedures for some time, and their treatment team will contact the pharmacy for their medication needs. You must bring notes about your symptoms and a list of your current medications, prescription number or prescription bottle to your appointment so we can contact you.”

Due to this incident, multiple services provided by Ascension are currently suspended. These include:
- electronic health record system
- My chart
- some phone systems
- Various systems used to order specific tests, treatments, and medications
Ascension is also suspending some non-emergency procedures at this time, including some tests and appointments. Some Ascension hospitals also have emergency diversions to emergency medical services so that emergency cases can be triaged immediately.
