More than 90 students from Banja Luka and Bihac took part in a student lecture on cybersecurity and youth innovation held today at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Banja Luka as part of the European Union's Generation Change project. Students from the University of Banja Luka and the University of Bihac had a fruitful discussion about cybersecurity threats, the legal framework for cybersecurity, and how to stay safe online.
“It was a real pleasure to talk to such a dynamic and engaging group of young people about cybersecurity. The importance of cybersecurity in today’s world, where the digital environment shapes almost every aspect of our lives. This cannot be overemphasized. It is important that the BiH authorities address this issue more comprehensively. Currently, Bosnia and Herzegovina has no comprehensive legislation or strategic framework for cybersecurity. There is also a lack of institutional arrangements for cybersecurity, which creates vulnerabilities for citizens, institutions, and businesses.”Said Adebayo BabajideDeputy Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In today's discussion with students, other panelists included Damian Sedar, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in BiH, Azra Erezovic from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Banja Luka, Branko Petrovic, cybersecurity expert; Mr. Damir Softić was present. During the discussion, students discussed the dangers that internet use poses to young people, whether young people can be prevention innovators, and whether they can be agents in supporting internet security with creative ideas. After the event, students set out on a city tour exploring Banja Luka's cultural and historical sights.

The event in Banja Luka was the fourth generational student talk event in 2024. More than 550 students from his eight public universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina traveled to Tuzla, Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka over the past two months. The students actively engaged in conversations and discussions on a variety of topics important to Bosnia and Herzegovina's youth and the path to EU membership.
The 2024 Student Dialogue has concluded and selected students from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina will be invited to the Youth Leadership Conference in May, marking the beginning of the second phase of the Generational Change Project.
