Colorful photography inventor Samuel Melo Medeiros and camera and optics veteran Yashica have joined forces to create the Micro Mirrorless Yashica – I'm Back, billed as the world's smallest mirrorless camera. did.
The tiny replacement for bulky DSLRs, regular mirrorless cameras, and perhaps the ubiquitous smartphone is currently in the prototype stage and measures just 77 x 50 mm (3 x 1.97 inches) without the lens.
Inside its small body, a development partnership has integrated Sony's 12 megapixel 1/2.33-inch type IMX117 CMOS sensor. This means the camera can manage about 1 second of 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) video recording at 24 frames per second. half an hour. Light sensitivity is relatively low at ISO100 to ISO3200, but the system benefits from automatic white balance and automatic exposure.
There's a 2-inch articulated touchscreen on the back for shot previews, and there's also a 1,350mAh battery, but no per-charge operating numbers were shared.
The team is also working on three front-mounted manual-focus lenses: a 75-degree, 30 mm equivalent wide-angle lens, a 50 mm equivalent “standard” lens, and a 150 mm equivalent telephoto lens. Also, in response to a question about the inclusion of AF, the team answered, “The camera aims to act as a replacement for smartphones, but adding autofocus may pose cost and technical challenges.'' Ta. However, macro functionality using standard lenses is in development and may be compatible with existing glass from Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc. via an optional adapter.
Of course, you can buy a lens kit for your smartphone, but Yashica's partnership with I'm Back promises “superior quality photos and videos compared to smartphones.”
A microphone input for an external microphone can be secured to the top shoe mount, and there's an HDMI output on the side for direct connection to a TV or computer, as well as a built-in microSD card slot and USB-C port. Wi-Fi connectivity enables wireless file transfer.
The optional battery grip certainly makes the unit larger, but it also increases the snap time between charges. However, this accessory is not currently part of the campaign and will be available from the I'm Back online store as soon as it is ready.
At the time of writing, Kickstarter pledge prices start at CHF 178 (listed as USD 199 in the campaign), which includes the camera body, standard lens, remote, strap, and USB-C cable. Higher pledge levels add things like tripod and selfie stick combinations and additional lenses. Perhaps after the campaign ends, the shoe-mounted viewfinder will also be available directly from the I'm Back online store.
Crowdfunding is tricky, but if the already-funded campaign goes as planned, shipping is expected to begin in November. There's more in the video below.
