Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter will be joining EA Sports College Football 25, which is set to return after being canceled 11 years ago. He is one of the six players featured on the cover.
The cover for the deluxe edition of the popular video game was posted on the online PlayStation Store on Friday. Although no official release date has been set, the game is expected to be released this summer before the start of college football season. The game features all 134 major college football schools.
College Football 25 will be the first version of EA Sports' college football series to be released since 2013, when production of the game ceased after EA Sports was sued for using players' likenesses without compensation. . The NCAA's approval in 2021 to allow players to profit from brands opens the door for the game to be made again.
The cover depicts the backs of numerous players in easily recognizable college football uniforms in the stadium tunnel, and six players have their names written on the back of their jerseys. Edwards, Ewers and Hunter will be joined by Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins.
Video game developers offered FBS players a minimum of $600 and a copy of the game to include their likeness. Some players were also offered name, image, and likeness rights deals to promote the game through an ambassador program. It wasn't immediately clear how much the athlete's contract was worth.
Over 11,000 players accepted offers to join the game.
EA Sports said that for players who decline offers, generic players will be created in their place. The developer also said that gamers will be blocked from manually adding players who have opted out. He did not say how he plans to do so.
