College football fans/gamers around the world can't wait for the new game to launch in mid-July: EA Sports College Football 25. Michigan fans are especially excited to see a ton of Michigan Wolverines players in the new official trailer that was released a few days ago. Donovan Edwards is the cover athlete, and he and his fellow Wolverines players feature frequently in the new gameplay descriptions.
In the clip above, you can clearly see starting quarterback Alex Orji handing the ball off to running back Donovan Edwards. What's a bit odd is that the game is being played in Texas. The Wolverines won't play in Austin until 2027, and Edwards, Orji, and others will likely be long gone by then.
The clip above is one of the coolest in the entire video, as it shows Will Johnson, a potential elite player in the game with an overall rating of 98, perfectly predicting a pass and then using a special player ability to intercept it. Johnson is projected to be one of the best overall players in the game, and his unique, realistic ability should make defending the pass a lot easier.
In the very short clip above, Kirk Herbstreit explains player abilities, which are what separate the stars from the average player. A player can have up to eight abilities, regardless of position. Donovan Edwards is shown to have at least three abilities, and the screen cuts to the next player before showing if they have any abilities beyond the first “page.”
In the clip above, home-field advantage is discussed, showing Michigan Stadium completely full and with the meter rocking hard, while UTEP peaks around the halfway mark and Sam Houston barely has a rise.
In the screenshot above, you can clearly see Michigan's offense, defense, and overall rating. Considering what Michigan lost after winning the national title, an offense and defense of 92 and an overall rating of 93 is pretty solid. Unfortunately, Ohio State is projected to be the highest rated team in the game. In the actual video clip from EA Sports, it says that the ratings are subject to change, but most people are pretty happy with what's shown.
In the clip, Herbstreit talks about each team's signature style, mentioning Michigan's strong run game with Donovan Edwards running through Michigan State's defenders. This game is a bit closer than last year's 49-0 rout in East Lansing, but everything else seems pretty realistic.
Unfortunately, in the clip above, Alex Orji throws an interception against USC at The Big House. This is honestly something that could happen this fall. Orji isn't a starter yet, but he probably will be. And we've seen him struggle a little with accuracy at times. It's also possible that he could be much more effective if he becomes an every-down QB with elite-level running ability. Keeping defenses a little more honest and in check because of his running ability can only be a positive for him as a passer.
Most of what we've seen so far has been in Michigan's favor, and this clip is no exception. Other than Orji throwing an interception, everything is going well. Michigan fans will be excited to play this game, and veteran fans of NCAA games can't wait to spend the rest of the summer hunkering down with their sticks while we all wait for real football to return.
