The Meta Quest headset introduces a new “Travel Mode” that allows you to enjoy augmented reality and virtual reality experiences even in a moving vehicle.
However, its most advanced features allow users to enjoy it during the flight to their destination, making it an alternative or only option for in-flight entertainment tailored to their preferred content.
For this feature, Meta created a travel mode specifically for flying planes, providing specific algorithms depending on how the plane moves in the air.
Metaquest “Travel Mode” is now available in beta
Mark Zuckerberg shared a new post on Instagram showcasing the latest “Travel Mode” feature available on Quest headsets, specifically the Quest 3 he was wearing.
This clip shows that despite traveling on a plane, the headset works as intended and is unaffected by the plane's movement. Streaming, gaming, shopping, and pass-through features were also introduced.
According to the Meta Quest blog, the feature will be accessible to users in beta and is being touted as the “ultimate in-flight entertainment” option.
The company claimed that the algorithm, which takes into account the airplane's movements, has been “tuned” for this use and will not disrupt or affect the headset and its functionality, even while in flight.

Meta Quest and its famous features
The use of wearable headsets, especially when providing only VR, has been recommended only in homes, offices, or other enclosed spaces where users are not likely to harm themselves or others.
But mixed reality is here, and Meta has embraced this technology to augment reality with AR and incorporate more of the world outside of your device with the Quest 3.
That said, although not recommended, users can use the new pass-through feature to use their Quest 3 XR headset wherever they like. This allows the user to see what is outside and pay attention to the outside world.
Passthrough integrates AR and VR to provide a way to see more of the world. Several users use it in coffee shops and other places.
Despite these features, the Quest 3 is not made for use while traveling, especially when the wearer is behind the wheel. It doesn't matter if the device has passthrough or not. The same goes for Vision Pro.
That said, Airplane Quest owners are given the opportunity to pick up where they left off with Travel Mode, harnessing the power of both AR and VR to provide endless entertainment on long journeys .
