LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — There are colorful and colorless divides on the Las Vegas Strip. Heavy metal fans dressed all in black and colorful cosplayers and gamers sharing the space nearby.
Nearly 100,000 attendees fill the north end of the Strip for Chic New World, a heavy metal music festival at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, and LVL UP EXPO, a gathering of video game, anime, and cosplay enthusiasts at the Las Vegas Convention Center. it was done. Although not on the same weekend, each will take place in 2023. This year, both were scheduled at the same time, but the response from attendees was different than expected.
“When you see the little ears and the tail, you're like, 'Where are you going?'” Elizabeth Lattanzio-Battle said with a laugh after leaving the music festival Saturday afternoon.
“This is a gathering of two different groups, all very dressed up. They look at each other and say, 'Yeah!' And just giving high fives and passing each other on the street,” John Hensley said Saturday afternoon outside the convention center dressed as his favorite video game character.
Head-to-toe black wardrobes and rainbow-colored wigs are different cultures, but they all have at least one thing in common. It's about embracing what they call “their weirdness.”
“Honestly, I feel welcomed and everyone else feels welcomed,” Brian Viegas said as he left the music festival Saturday afternoon.
“Everything is positive, everything is great and everyone is just trying to have a good time and enjoy life,” Hensley said.
Chic New World was a one night festival on Saturday. LVL UP EXPO starts on Friday and runs until Sunday.
