Aside from fervent brand loyalty, nothing in the gaming industry sparks more debate than review scores. So what better way to spend the end of a busy week than to sit down with a nice cup of tea and look at a big list of video game publishers published in 2023, ranked by review score of all video game publishers Is there one? Thank you, Metacritic.
Yes, a major company that aggregates review scores will tell you which video game publishers were the “best” in 2023, based on a specific formula that includes review scores and whether each published title landed “good.” Once again, we've published a definitive, science-based list of: or a “bad” field. Admittedly, this year's rankings brought some surprises for me. Mainly because I tend to forget how many rankings I have. thing Some companies are to blame. Metacritic ranks publishers on this list from worst to best based on a points system calculated according to four factors:
(1) Average metascore of all games released in 2023
150 points (awarded at 1.5 times the average metascore)
(2) Percentage of products with good reviews (meta score or higher) )
Score out of 100 (e.g. 80% good = 80 points)
(3) Percentage of scores for products with bad reviews ( below. In this case, the lower the %, the better)
100 points (e.g. 20% bad = 80 points)
(4) Number of “great” titles (meta score Above, minimum. 7 reviews)
5 bonus points will be awarded for each title with a score of 90 or above
With all that said, here's who came out on top and who ended up on the bottom. There are some pretty surprising positions in the rankings, with Capcom having a strong year with Resident Evil 4 and Street Fighter 6, jumping from his sixth place last year to the top spot. There is no doubt that Nintendo also moved up in the rankings due to the likes of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom'' and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder,'' but PlayStation has moved up from last year's winner to 13th place mainly thanks to the PC. Dropped. And efforts towards VR. Xbox also returned to the rankings after being completely absent last year, and managed to break into 15th place in the rankings.
