DENVER — Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer travel season, and Denver International Airport said it expects record passenger numbers over the holiday weekend.
AAA is also predicting near-record travel numbers this weekend, with more than 43 million people expected to travel more than 80 miles from home. AAA said this weekend is expected to be the second-busiest Memorial Day travel weekend on record.
“The busiest Memorial Day weekend in nearly 20 years will be the start of a summer that will historically attract the most travelers,” said AAA's Skyler McKinley. “Remember that travel is fundamentally an economic issue.Despite stubborn inflation and storm clouds globally, consumer interest in travel is increasing, and international travel is one of the lowest in recent memory. has reached the highest level.”
Auto Club Group predicts more than 38 million people will travel by car in the U.S. this weekend, the highest total for the Memorial Day holiday since AAA began tracking 24 years ago. It becomes a number.
