To avoid crowds and find a parking space, airport officials recommend arriving at the airport early or reserving a parking space online.
NORFOLK, Va. — As the holiday air travel season begins, many people are looking forward to getting out of town, but first they have to find a place to park at Norfolk International Airport (ORF).
“Parking is always a challenge. Usually it takes me 10 minutes to find a space but luckily I was able to find one,” said Adam Carides, a traveller who was rushing to catch his flight.
Meanwhile, other travellers like Omar Rogers said it was difficult to find parking as many car parks were closed.
“I heard on Channel 13 news that the airports were going to be busy. They were talking about the airports being busy and all that stuff. You need to get there early, but now I know what you guys were talking about,” Rogers said.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says more people will be flying over the Memorial holiday weekend, and ORF spokesperson Chris Jones told 13News Now that the airport is expecting record numbers of travelers this year compared to previous years.
“TSA predicts that Memorial Day will be the airport's busiest day ever, with 5 million passengers expected to use the airport on most days this year. New records are being set every month, and Memorial Day will be no exception,” Chris Jones said.
To avoid the crowds and find a parking space, Jones recommends arriving at the airport early or reserving a parking space online.
But Carides said next time he might choose a different mode of transportation rather than driving to the airport and parking there.
“I wish there was public transport. [take] For longer trips I would use Uber, but for two or three days it's not bad,” he says.
