The Michigan Department of Transportation is launching a household travel survey that will provide the information needed to set transportation priorities for the next 20 years.
Starting April 15, randomly selected households across Michigan will have the opportunity to provide details on how they will travel.
The survey, MI Travel Counts, is conducted by Resource Systems Group, Inc. (RSG), a nationally recognized research firm, on behalf of MDOT. The findings will help transportation planners better understand how, when, where, and why people move in and around Michigan.
Last implemented in 2015, this update helps planners take into account the many changes that have occurred in travel, including the prevalence of remote work, increased online shopping, and increased use of ridesharing and delivery services. .
Randomly selected households will receive an invitation to participate in the survey via US Mail. Upon accepting the invitation, household members provide demographic data and report their trip via a smartphone application, online, or by phone.
Information provided to MI Travel Counts is anonymized and aggregated to calculate statistics for research purposes.
The survey will be conducted in three stages. The first phase is scheduled from April 15th until early June, with additional phases scheduled for spring and fall 2025.
Invited households were randomly selected within the state, and survey materials were available in English, Spanish, and Arabic. You can participate via smartphone app, web, or phone.
