Marquette needs a new women's basketball coach.
Megan Duffy was hired by Virginia Tech on Wednesday after leading the Golden Eagles for five seasons.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Duffy and her husband Kevin to Virginia Tech,” Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock said in a statement. “An excellent player and coach, Megan has a tireless work ethic and a proven ability to develop talent and build successful programs. She is a proven winner and a member of our I am committed to continuing the momentum of our women’s basketball program.”
Duffy compiled a 110-46 record at MU, including 64-30 in the Big East, but the Golden Eagles failed to break through with a win in the NCAA Tournament.
“The opportunity to continue the winning tradition in the Hokie Nation and be a part of the passionate and knowledgeable Blacksburg community makes this a dream job for me,” Duffy said in a statement. “The ACC is the best conference in the country with a wealth of talent and great leaders.”

Megan Duffy named 2019-20 Big East Coach of the Year
Duffy was named Big East Coach of the Year in his first season at MU after reaching the conference tournament championship game. The Golden Eagles were poised to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, but the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
MU made it to the NCAA Tournament the following season, but interestingly lost to Virginia Tech in the first round. The Golden Eagles advanced to the third round of the WNIT in 2022, but then lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to South Florida last season and Ole Miss this season.
What does the market roster look like?
Duffy's replacement at MU will have to rebuild the roster, and this season's starting lineup is slated to move forward. Jordan King and Franny Hottinger have exhausted their five years of eligibility, Rose Nkumu has announced on social media that she will not seek a fifth season, and Liza Karlen and Kenzie Hare have entered the transfer portal in recent days. The Golden Eagles still have some attractive young players, including 6-foot-3 freshman forward Skylar Forbes and 6-1 guard Hall Bice, who battled injuries this season. MU signed three players for its freshman class in the fall, including Waupun High School's Cale Peterson.
