Three local students have won nearly $16,000 in scholarships for their cybersecurity efforts.
Human Al Shami is a high school senior studying at the Magnolia-based Arkansas Connections Academy.
Al Shami founded the Magnolia Cybersecurity Club. Along with members Mohamed Alrobi and Nassif Ahmed, they competed in CyberStart America.
Alrobi is a freshman at Magnolia High School and Nassif is a freshman at Arkansas Connections Academy.
Al Shami led the team in the CyberStart America competition and was recognized as a Scholar and Honor Roll student respectively.
This year, Al Shami received more than $9,000 in scholarships and Honors Scholar status to pursue advanced cybersecurity training at the SANS Institute.
Nassif and Mohamed earned scholarship status this year, earning them more than $3,400 in scholarships to pursue advanced cybersecurity training at the SANS Institute.
In total, the team earned more than $15,800 in scholarships.
The competition is national, and the Magnolia team competes among over 40,000 students to be in the top 1% of participants if they reach the rank of Honors Scholar, and in the top 5 if they reach the rank of Scholar. % entered. Scholar.
