Prime Video has revealed that it is producing a documentary series about Madden NFL, one of the biggest sports video game franchises of all time. The untitled show on Amazon's streaming service will be a four-part series that will cover the beginnings of John Madden football in the late 1980s through to the Madden NFL release, which is likely to be released this year (yet to be released).
According to Prime Video, the Madden NFL documentary will feature “rare, never-before-seen footage.” The four-part series details how a soccer series “almost never happened” at EA Sports. It is also expected to show how developers can “perfect the next generation of games.”
The Madden series began in 1988 with John Madden Football, and the latest installment was released last year as Madden NFL 24. The series takes its name from legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden. He passed away at the age of 85 at the end of 2021, so EA Sports will honor his legacy as the cover star of Madden NFL 23. It's been more than 20 years since he put his name on the box art of a football series.
This football franchise continues to dominate the sales charts year after year. For example, Madden NFL 24 was released in August 2023, but so far in the US it is one of his best-selling games of 2024.
There is no premiere date yet for the untitled Madden NFL documentary.
