In its latest government customer win, Lumen Technologies will provide secure managed network services, audio and video conferencing services to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, according to the service provider.
Lumen Technologies (formerly CenturyLink) has been awarded a $73.6 million contract to transform the U.S. General Accounting Office's (GAO) network, data, voice, and video connectivity.
In the latest agreement, Lumen will provide secure managed network services, virtual private network services, Ethernet transport services, Internet protocol services, video conferencing services, and voice and toll-free services to GAO, the Office of Audit, Evaluation, and Investigations of Congress. Monroe, Louisiana-based Lumen is evolving its once communications-focused business to focus on more strategic service opportunities, such as network-as-a-service (NaaS). The company's strategy has worked well for its government customers, with several large contracts awarded to various U.S. government agencies in recent years.

Lumen's other large government customer wins include a $1.2 billion network services contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a $1.6 billion network services award with the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Lumen's latest win offers a base performance period of one year with eight additional one-year options. Lumen said the product was awarded to the company under the General Services Administration's Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) program.
Lumen said the service provider is tasked with helping GAO change its current network model to reduce capital expenditures, increase efficiency and improve service delivery.

Lumen has undergone significant leadership changes over the past two years as it focuses on technology and financial restructuring. Most recently, in February, Lumen appointed networking technology mainstay Dave Ward as its new chief technology officer. Last year, Lumen hired telecom industry veteran Kie Prigg as executive vice president of the service provider's enterprise business, which accounts for more than three-quarters of Lumen's overall revenue.
In Lumen's latest fiscal quarter, the company reported total revenue of $3.52 billion, down 7.3% compared to $3.8 billion in the year-ago period. The company reported non-GAAP earnings per share of 8 cents, a decrease of 81.3% compared to 43 cents per share in the final quarter of 2022. Overall, total revenue for Lumen's business units decreased 7.2%, totaling $2.78 billion in the latest quarter. The company attributed 39 percent of the revenue decline in its Lumen business to recent divestitures.
