LOGAN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A West Virginia native has returned to his hometown of Logan to start a new independent video game studio called PlayKigai.
According to a press release, PlayKigai is a fully remote game development company led by CEO Aaron Chambers and Chief Development Officer Simone Di Gravio. Chambers was born in Logan, West Virginia, attended West Virginia University and spent nine years working in the San Francisco Bay Area for companies such as PlayStation and Twitch. Di Gravio currently works remotely from Italy and has experience working at Epic Games, developer of the popular online game “Fortnite,” and in virtual reality.
“A big part of our mission is to be the gateway into the industry for young talent in West Virginia and other rural communities around the world,” Chambers said. “Being able to provide a path for West Virginia-based developers to create something great and grow their careers without having to leave the state is just as high a priority to me as any of the other goals we're trying to achieve.”
In terms of collaborating with local video game programs, Chambers said PlayKigai has already seen “very positive” responses from schools like West Virginia University and Marshall University. The studio has already published its first project, a creative map for Fortnite, which is now available through the in-game client.
“We want people to have fun in the creative process,” Di Gravio says. “PlayKigai is a place where people can experiment and hone their skills.”
According to the FAQ on PlayKigai's website, the company is always looking for “talented developers with big ambitions.” If you're looking for a job in the game development industry, check out the website[お問い合わせ]You can submit your resume and portfolio to PlayKigai using the button.
