SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Local sports bars are gearing up for the NCAA National Championship as UConn and Purdue face off on Monday night.
22 News went to Christopher's Tavern in Springfield to see how they're preparing for a busy night. The owner told us March His Madness is always good for business and game nights usually draw a good crowd, even with a late start.
“It was great to see the local interest, especially at UConn,” owner Chris Arillotta said. “It was a great tournament and everything is going well with the Bruins and Celtics right now. They look like they're going to make it through the playoffs, so it was really good.”
No. 1 overall seed UConn secured a spot in the national championship game with an 86-72 victory over Alabama in the Final Four on Saturday night. The men's program is aiming for its first consecutive championship since the University of Florida in 2006 and 2007.
