SALISBURY, Md. – It's one of the busiest travel seasons, but BayRunner Shuttle has some tips to help make sure your trip goes smoothly.
More than 300,000 people are expected to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge over Memorial Day weekend.
Caroline Pressburg, vice president of BayRunner Shuttle, said if you fly at BWI, using the shuttle service can take some of the stress out of a long trip.
“We're keeping a close eye on passengers' flight times and encouraging them to leave early and give themselves plenty of time,” Pressberg said. “If there's a little bit of congestion on the bridge, we know all the detours so we can avoid the congestion at all costs.”
The fear of bridges and tunnels (gephyrophobia) has been on the rise since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in March.
And with very limited transportation options from the Eastern Shore to the West Shore, BayRunner Shuttle driver Charlie Linton said having someone drive during the busy travel season can ease anxiety.
“In my opinion, as long as everyone stays in their lane and is mindful of their behavior, it's very safe,” Linton said.
“A lot of people are very skeptical and afraid to drive through there, so a lot of times they say, 'We don't want to go through there ourselves, so we're choosing the Bay Runner,'” Linton added.
Linton says if you haven't already booked a ride, you should do so to ensure your weekend plans go ahead.
“Tourists are advised to book earlier than usual, especially on weekends, as traffic congestion can be expected,” Linton said.
