PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Metro is assessing whether there is enough land in the Portland metro area for growth over the next 20 years, and the city of Sherwood is proposing to expand its urban growth boundary.
The public will have an opportunity to comment on Metro's assessment and Sherwood's expansion proposal from June 28 to July 28. The public can provide feedback on the draft Urban Growth Report and Sherwood's proposal to extend the urban growth boundary into the urban reserve adjacent to the city.
Comments can be shared with Metro online, by mail, email, phone, in person or at a public hearing. More information about the online survey and other ways to provide comments can be found on the 2024 Urban Growth Management Decision Project webpage.
Metro is an independent local government serving the urban areas of Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties.
One of its missions is to maintain urban growth boundaries around metropolitan areas beyond which city services such as water and sewer are prohibited. Oregon law draws lines on planning maps around each metropolitan area to protect farms and forests from development and sprawl.
