This week's local governments are talking about next year's budget. Hillsborough Mayor Eric Peterson and Durham County Commissioner Kimberly Sowell will present their respective budget proposals for the first time. Chapel Hill and Pittsboro will hold public hearings on their own budget proposals. Carrboro Town Council and Orange County Commission will also continue their own budget deliberations. But that's not all. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board will consider a high school “block” scheduling plan that has drawn some backlash, and the Durham school board will continue its search for a new superintendent.
Here's an overview of local government meetings being held this week in Durham, Orange and Chatham counties.
orange county
of hillsboro committee Meet on Monday, May 13th at 7pm. Town Manager Eric Peterson will present next year's recommended budget. Get the full agenda at this link.
of Carrboro City Council will hold a budget work session on Tuesday, May 14th from 7:00 p.m. Click here for a link to the agenda.
of chapel hill city council A public hearing on Mayor Chris Blue's proposed budget will be held on Wednesday, May 15th at 6 p.m. Click here for the full agenda. The agenda also includes a possible vote to advance plans to place a bond referendum on the November ballot.
And that orange county commission will be holding its own budget work session at the Southern Human Services Center on Thursday, May 16 from 7 p.m. The focus of this work session is education, namely funding for his two school districts in the county and Durham Technical College. lastly, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education The board will discuss the budget, but the top topic will be scheduling, with board members expected to consider approving a new “block” daily schedule for the high school. (District officials made this recommendation after soliciting feedback from students, parents, and staff, but some AP classes may end months before the actual AP test.
