U.S. Rep. David Trone, D-Maryland, has loaned more than $54 million to the U.S. Senate primary campaign against Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, according to a new Federal Election Commission report.
Trone, co-founder of Total Wine & More, a retail chain representing Frederick County and Western Maryland, loaned the campaign $54.1 million and spent about the same amount, the report said in April. It said it covers the period up to the 24th.
In a report also filed Thursday, Allbrooks said he spent $5.9 million on the race. She reported raising $7.8 million and having $1.9 million on hand.
Mr. Tron reported a balance of $3.7 million.
The numbers are designed to cover much of the period between March 31, when the last financial reports were required, and the primary election.
Preliminary voting is May 14th. Early voting began Thursday.
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who is running in the Republican primary, reported raising $1.1 million between April 1 and April 24.
Hogan has three accounts, according to his campaign and FEC reports. Hogan of Maryland is his main committee. Hogan Victory Fund, a “pass-through” account that allows donations to be transferred to the main fund. and Better Path Forward, a political action committee created before Hogan filed to run.
The candidates are vying to succeed Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, who is not seeking re-election.
