WILLIAMSTOWN — It was raining when teams from the Little Kanawha Conference converged on Williamstown High School for track and field supremacy. The host Yellow Jackets won the women's title, accumulating 166 points through 18 tournaments. Dodorridge County was on the back foot from start to finish, finishing with a mere five-point lead at 161. The Bulldogs defeated Williamstown, 139.5-119, to win the boys championship.
The Yellow Jackets dominated the throwing events at the women's event, with Reagan Corbett winning the discus (113-5) and Kindra Johnson winning the shot put (35-11.5). Shelby Smith won the 400-meter dash for Williamstown, finishing in 57.97 seconds. Her teammate Alyssa Sauro won every individual event longer than one lap, including the 800 (2:19.27), 1600 (4:55.49) and 3200 (11:10.85). She also competed in the 4×400 with Kathy Sait, Izzy Zaid and Lucy Collins, winning in 4:24.93. These performances earned Saul the Women's High Point award, with Saul finishing with her 32.5 points.
Williamstown won the boys tournament four times. Thrower Aiden Corbett won the team's first individual championship in the shot put with a record of 50-5. Fellow Yellow Jacket Frank Connor then won both the 1,600-meter dash (4:29.79) and 800-meter dash (2:01.37). Brogan Law won the 110m hurdles in 15.45 seconds.
Sage Landis of Doddridge County fits the bill. The senior won for the Bulldogs in the long jump (19-8.5), pole vault (14-0) and 400-meter dash (50.12), and also placed third in the 200-meter dash (22.76). He finished the day with 36 points, good enough to win the men's high point award.
The Doddridge County girls team won several events. The Bulldogs' 4×800 meter relay team of Katie Cottrill, Kath Cumberridge, Bailey Holden and Destiny Berryman took home the title with a time of 10:07.23. Berryman placed second in the 3,200 meters (11:19.65), 1,600 meters (5:22.77) and 800 meters (2:22.88), earning him 26.5 points and second place for the High Point Award. Ta. In the 4×100, Hannah Reimer, Kim Adams, Peyton Trent and Peyton Curry combined to win in 52.76 seconds. Trent himself won the 200-meter dash (27.36 seconds).
Ritchie County won three events in the boys division. In the high jump, Dylan Malolepsy cleared 6-2 to win his team's first gold medal. The Rebels' 4×200 team of Jasper Stringer, Alex Rogerson, Caden Moore and Garrett Copeland topped all competitors with a 1:36.45 finish. Ritchie County also won the 4×400 with Moore, Mallolepsy, Copeland and Rogerson winning in 3:34.53.
On the girls side, Ritchie County won two tournaments, both won by Sydney Kopshina. His 10 wins and 2 losses in the pole vault was his best result of the day, and he also won the 100 meter dash title (13.22 seconds).
Ravenswood's Wyatt Milhoan showed off his sprinting talent at the championship meet. He won both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, finishing in 11.17 seconds in the former and 22.4 seconds in the latter. Miljoan was runner-up in the boys' high point award, and in addition to his win, he placed fourth in the 400 hurdles (52.38 points) and fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Roane County won three LKC championships, two of which came in the 300 meter hurdles. Jocelyn Cox won on the girls' team with a score of 47.27, and Lane Watson won on the boys' team with a score of 41.04. In the boys 4×100 meter relay, the Roane County team including Paul O'Brien, Brandon Richardson, Shea Harper and Lane Watson won the gold medal (46.04 seconds).
The Knights of Tyler Consolidated had four first-place finishes. Tristen Tuttle won the men's discus throw with a score of 154-4. His teammate Amos Kimble won the 3200 meters in 9:46.58. The women's team won two races in the hurdle race. Lily Dillaman won the 100-meter hurdles individually (16.75 seconds), and the team of Dillaman, Bridget Doak, Bella Galluccio, and Addison Blosser won the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:10.7.
The St. Mary's boys 4×800 meter relay team of Max Dauch, Reece Westfall, Jay Mort and Tristan Marner finished in 8:26.26, good enough for first place.
Clay County's boys 110 shuttle hurdle relay was won by the team of Damien Stricker, Justin Nida, Takota Quinn and Evan Bass, completing the race in 1:04.09.
Gilmer County swept both girls' jumping competitions. Airiana Hord won the long jump with a jump of 15-6. Fellow Titan athlete Cadessa Stitt took first place in the high jump, clearing 4-10.
South Harrison College's women's 4×200 meter relay team, consisting of Alivia Baker, Emma Sharp, Rayna Headley and Ashley Martin, won in 1:52.68.
