This is the fifth time since September that lawmakers have faced a funding deadline, having narrowly passed bridge bills to keep the government running in September, November, January and earlier this month.
In September, President Joe Biden signed a short-term funding bill passed by Congress, averting a government shutdown ahead of a midnight deadline. The bill continued government operations through Nov. 17 and included natural disaster assistance, but no additional funding for Ukraine or border security.
And in November, the Senate passed a stopgap bill to keep the government open, creating two new shutdown deadlines in January and February and an unusual approach to funding the government in two phases. I took it.
The bill extends funding for priorities such as military construction, veterans affairs, transportation, housing, and the Department of Energy until January 19. The rest of the government (those not covered by the first phase) will be funded until February 2nd. The proposal did not include additional aid to Israel or Ukraine.
In January, lawmakers passed a two-step short-term funding extension with new deadlines of March 1 and March 8.
The two-phase plan passed in January extends funding to parts of the federal government through March 1, including the departments of Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, and Energy. Ta. The rest of the government (not covered by the first step) was funded through March 8th.
And earlier this month, Congress passed the first round of government funding bills ahead of another partial deadline at the end of March 22, including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Veterans Affairs, Energy, Interior and Transportation. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Food and Drug Administration, Military Construction, and other federal programs.
Funding for the remaining ministries expires at the end of today.
