Art Love Collective, The Burger Stand and Taco Zone were joined by friends at a ceremony for Cole Brings Plenty, 27, who was found dead last week after being missing for several days. We are cooperating with fundraising efforts so that we can attend.
At the “Indigenous Open Mic: Letter to Cole,” Brings-Plenty's classmates and other friends from Haskell Indian Nations University spoke “Inspired by Koko,” according to a social media post from the Art Love Collective. People can share stories, songs and poems in honor of Coco.
Munikoju Lakota, who brought a lot, was a student studying media at Haskell Indian Nations University. He was also an actor known for his role in the television show “1923,'' a spin-off of “Yellowstone.''
Brings Plenty worked at a burger stand in the Casbah. The restaurant closed over the weekend following news that Brings Plenty's body was found in Johnson County. Investigators announced Wednesday that no criminal activity was suspected in his death. (See link below for more backstory.)
The Bring's Plenty ceremony will be held in South Dakota. Taco Zone will be selling tacos at the event and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to help pay for Brings and Her Plenty of Friends to go to the venue.
Monique Mercurio of the Ohlone Costanoan Esselen Nation, who is the director of operations for the Art Love Collective, said, “What has been on the minds and hearts of our relatives and community members this past week? “We decided to hold an open mic night to share our thoughts,” he wrote on Facebook. post. “We hope this brings a sense of peace and support to all participants.”
The event is scheduled to be held at the Art Love Collective, 646 Vermont St., on Friday, April 12th from 6-8 p.m.
“This event is open to the public! We're all hurting and we need you to give us some love, so please come show your support and solidarity with Indigenous communities,” Mercurio wrote.
Mercurio is also asking local artists to donate art to a silent auction to help fund student travel. Art donations can be dropped off at Art Love any time before Friday's event.
