When you think of iconic video game characters, there are certain names that keep coming up.
Mario should be there, along with the likes of Sonic, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and perhaps modern characters like Minecraft and Pokemon.
But a new BAFTA poll has revealed that Tomb Raider character Lara Croft is what video game players consider the most iconic.
The first Tomb Raider game was released in 1996 and exploded in popularity, spawning multiple sequels and three movies. The first two films (released in 2001 and 2003) starred Angelina Jolie as the title character, while Alicia Vikander played the role in the 2018 reboot.
Lara Croft is a fictional British archaeologist who explores ancient tombs and ruins around the world, competing with the aforementioned Mario and Sonic as well as Link from The Legend of Zelda series and Agent 47 from Hitman. I broke it. It was in the top 10.
The poll was conducted in commemoration of the 20th BAFTA Game Awards later this month.
