NEW ULM — KNUJ announced the 2023-2024 Winter Player of the Year at the 62nd Annual Player of the Year event on Tuesday, selecting three players from 44 candidates.
St. Peter's University's Ryan Holmgren has been named the KNUJ Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Holmgren was selected for his play in the Class AAA state tournament and for averaging 21.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial Area's Nick Slater was named Wrestler of the Year. Slater helped lead LCWMA to the team state tournament and placed second at 189 pounds in the individual state tournament. Slater finished the season with a record of 47 wins and 6 losses.
New Ulm's Colton Benson won the KNUJ Boys Basketball Player of the Year award for the second time. Benson averaged 27.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Eagles this year, finishing his career with 2,207 points.
KNUJ will also honor five state tournament teams during the event, including the New Ulm men's hockey team, LCWMA wrestling team, Buffalo Lake Hector Stewart women's basketball team, St. Peter women's basketball team, and Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey men's team. celebrated. basketball team.
