NEW DELHI: Hours after Pakistan's Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday demolished part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) office citing “violation of building regulations”, the party retorted that the action was “armed incursion and vandalism” by a “power-thieving government”.
Denying that any illegal construction was taking place on the PTI premises, party president and lawyer Gohar Ali Khan said, “Even if there was encroachment, the CDA should have given prior notice before carrying out the work.”
PTI Islamabad criticised the move, calling it a “blind use of force”.
“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf strongly condemns the aggression against the largest political party in the country by a government that has stolen power in the dark of night. We reiterate our resolve not to succumb to intimidation, lawlessness and blind use of force and never abandon the agenda of true freedom,” X's post said.
“The usurpers and their supporters are shocked to see their end approaching before their eyes. The illegal break-in at the Tehreek-e-Insaf Central Secretariat is a reflection of the fear among them,” he added.
The CDA said on Thursday that the move was part of an operation to demolish illegal structures.
The government organisation said it had notified the PTI but to no avail. As the operation was underway, the political party founded by former Prime Minister Imran Khan urged its members to immediately report it to the secretariat. The PTI alleged that the government had initiated the demolition of the offices in an “illegal and unjust manner”.
