Lady Vols basketball coach Kim Caldwell has hired a new director of sports performance.
Nolan Harvath, who has worked with West Virginia's strength and conditioning staff since December 2020, was announced Thursday as the new Director of Sports Performance for Lady Vols Basketball. Harvath and Caldwell previously worked together at Division II Glenville State University.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Coach Nolan in the past and he knows what we are trying to accomplish,” Caldwell said in a release to the school. “He understands the vision we have and is dedicated to making sure we are the hardest working team in the country. I know I’m going to show up to work focused on getting better.”
Harvath replaces Brian Tatum, who was not retained by the previous staff.
Harvath most recently worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at WVU and has been working with the football team since the spring of 2022. He was originally hired to help with the baseball and golf programs. Prior to his time at West Virginia, Harvath served as Director of Strength and Conditioning at Glenville State University from 2018 to 2020. He also served as assistant athletic director from 2019-2020.
Harvath, a native of Fairmont, West Virginia, graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2013 with a degree in exercise science and played on the university's men's soccer team. He earned his master's degree in sports coaching education from WVU in 2016.
He began his career during his senior year at USI, working at the Sports Acceleration Center in Evansville, Indiana. He then served as a strength and conditioning coach at the high school level at his alma mater East Fairmont High School and Morgantown High School from 2013 to 2017. He also worked with Pro Performance in Morgantown.
Harvath then became a strength and conditioning intern at WVU and worked with the football team. He also served as a consultant for the College of Charleston baseball team from 2016 to 2020.
