One Kentucky city made Condé Nast Traveler's list of “Best Places to Travel in May,” and you can see why.
“April showers bring May flowers”
May has always been synonymous with blooming flowers and a rich and beautiful spring. It's the perfect time to travel to escape the winter blues and feel renewed energy.
“Best place to travel in May”
Condé Nast Traveler recently released a list of “Best Places to Travel in May.” The list is full of beautiful, unique, and exotic locations around the world, including the Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu, and Zambia. Among the many breathtaking destinations on the list are the bustling cities of the Bluegrass State.
This Kentucky city on the “Best Places to Travel in May” list
A Kentucky city is one of the best places in the world to travel in May, offering thrills and excitement including live horse racing, stylish cocktails, and iconic hats. Of course, we're talking about Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby.
You've never experienced true day drinking until you've had a mint julep at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. Held this year on Saturday, May 4th, this iconic horse race is the perfect excuse to spend a long weekend in Louisville. Of course, your itinerary should prioritize spending time at Churchill Downs. At Churchill Downs, you can visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, sip cocktails, and enjoy fine dining at one of the venue's many restaurants and lounges.
However, what Condé Nast Traveler doesn't mention are all of the great neighborhoods within Louisville that should be on everyone's list, especially if you're traveling to Louisville for the first time.
Louisville Neighborhoods
Louisville has many neighborhoods that offer something for everyone. These are some of my personal favorites:
- Highlands is a colorful, artsy neighborhood filled with great vintage shops and great coffee.
- NuLu has great food and nightlife, and Quills is the place to visit for coffee.
- Old Louisville is a historic district filled with stunning Victorian homes.
