The only problem is the lightness of her southern belle. The strangeness is surprising, considering Comer's widely recognized talent for accents. Still, you have to give her credit for doing what she does best. The same can be said for Harbor, who brings the most “Sheriff Hopper energy” to the role of the beleaguered detective.
Unfortunately, the game is clearly below par and they are fighting a losing battle. First, the digital avatars are poorly rendered. Comer's normally very expressive face looks like it was made from a crushed loaf of her bread. The harbor resembles a giant pile of pale fabric.
Another recurring complaint is that Alone in the Dark feels unfinished. Combat is clunky and animations are blurry. Instead of signing the presumably huge checks that Harbor and Comer demanded, why not cast a lesser-known (and cheaper) actor and put the money saved into a better game?
The developers of Alone in the Dark have been candid about their motivations for hiring Comer and Haber. Creative director Michael Hedbert hopes it will garner more attention, with the public having a “parasocial” relationship with the famous stars of Killing Eve and Stranger Things. He explained. Meanwhile, Michael Culix, who was the caster and voice actor for Alone in the Dark, told the New York Times, “David Harbor and Jodie Comer are working on the new Alone in the Dark horror movie.'' If I found out I was starring in a movie, I'd probably go see it.''
