I've been lucky enough to travel a lot for photography and go to some pretty difficult places. When I first started traveling for photography (or maybe it was just a hobby, but I wanted to take my camera equipment with me), I couldn't leave anything behind. As I packed my camera bag, I was plagued with questions of “what if?” What if I want to see wildlife and need a long lens? What if I want to take astrophotography on a clear night? What if I want to take street portraits? It doesn't take many trips to realize your mistake.
After a while, I realized that the lightness of the kit should be a priority. Of course, it depends on the content, but he became attracted to one of two things: compact, lightweight, or versatile. If you know what you're likely to photograph, you can cut down on your kit and a lens like this Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G comes into its own.
Personally, I'd sacrifice a bit of weight and sharpness for a bit more zoom range, but this is a fairly affordable, fast, lightweight wide-angle lens. What do you think? Is this the kind of lens I would use for travel photography?
