As Intrepid Travel celebrates its 35th anniversary, co-founder Darrell Wade visits each of the company's offices in 27 countries and explores the company's plans, including doubling its client base and expanding in North America with a new office on the West Coast. It has announced its strategy for 2030.
The certified B-Corp aims to have 600,000 customers worldwide by 2030 and expects its new North American office to accelerate this growth. Intrepid currently employs 150 staff and over 200 tour leaders and guides on his continent, a number that has more than doubled since the pandemic.
Intrepid achieved net income of $14.2 million in 2023, as the post-pandemic recovery period comes to an end and the company can now work towards promoting a more sustainable and responsible travel experience. U.S. bookings for 2023 increased 15% year over year.
In the first quarter of 2024, North American revenue increased 9% compared to the same period in 2023.
Our 2030 strategic plan includes doubling our customers to 600,000, achieving US$850 million in revenue, and donating 1% of all revenue to our causes.
The company has also entered into a book deal with Hardy Grant Explore to publish a series of books over the next three years. Her first book, The Intrepid List, is scheduled to be published in October of this year. They will also undergo a recertification process for B Corp status.
James Thornton, CEO of Intrepid Travel, said: “If the 2030 strategy is successful, Intrepid will give back a record amount of money to the environmental and social causes we believe in as a company. “We will provide even more wonderful experiences to more travelers.'' , more inspiration, more joy, and more new ideas than ever before. And we will be one of the most exciting, rewarding and innovative places to work, not just in the travel industry, but in the world. ”
