F3EAD (Discovery, modification, termination, exploitation, analysis and dissemination) is a special operations force (S.O.F.) They are responsible for some of the most highly publicized missions supporting incidents that occur overseas. F3EAD is a system capable of predicting and estimating enemy operations, locating, pinpointing, and targeting enemy forces, and performing intelligence and analysis of captured enemy personnel and materiel.
1 — Search (reconnaissance): This first step involves identifying potential targets and their vulnerabilities. In the context of cybersecurity, this may include identifying systems or networks that are susceptible to attack.
2 — Modifications (weaponization and delivery): Once the target has been identified, the next step is to prepare for the attack. For Cyber Kill Chain, this includes creating a malicious payload and determining how to deliver it.
3 — Complete (exploit and install): Execution phase during which the attack is executed. Cyber Kill Chain involves exploiting identified vulnerabilities and installing malicious payloads on target systems.
Four – Exploit (Command and Control): Once executed, the attacker often exploits the situation by establishing a command and control network to maintain control of the compromised system.
Five – Analysis (actions on goals): This step involves understanding the impact of the attack, analyzing the data obtained, and learning from it to prepare for future attacks. In the cyber kill chain, this is when an attacker takes action to achieve a goal, such as exfiltrating data or disrupting a system.
In conclusion, the fusion of the F3EAD process and the Cyber Kill Chain framework provides a robust and proactive strategy for cybersecurity. This combination makes it easier to understand potential threats in greater detail and track their journey from identification to exploitation and, ultimately, the distribution of the acquired knowledge.
