INDIANAPOLIS — As thousands of people descend on central Indiana for Monday's total solar eclipse, officials with the Indianapolis Transportation Security Administration said they expect heavy travel volumes on Tuesday.
Officials expect the number of travelers at Indianapolis International Airport on Tuesday to be about 40% higher than a typical Tuesday, according to a news release. Officials expect the busiest times of the day to be between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
“Planning is extremely important when traveling on a busy day like this,” TSA Indiana Federal Security Director Aaron Butt said in a release. “Arriving at the airport in plenty of time and knowing what you can and cannot pack in your carry-on or checked baggage will save you time and expedite the process at checkpoints. can do.”
TSA officials provided several tips Tuesday encouraging travelers heading to the Indianapolis Airport to:
- Please arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your scheduled flight.
- Please allow plenty of time to park or drop off, check your baggage, and head to the gate.
- Be prepared at the checkpoint, including locating your ID and securing loose items in your carry-on baggage.
- When packing liquids in your carry-on, remember the 3-1-1 rule.
- Liquids are limited to 3.4 ounces or less, packed in quart-sized bags, and limited to one bag per passenger. Solid food can be carried on board, but if it's spilled, sprayed, spread, pumped or poured, it will be considered a liquid, officials said.
