The RSA Conference (RSAC) was held once again in San Francisco from May 6th to 9th with the 2024 theme “The Art of Possible.”
The show started with a funny celebrity presentation by Matthew Broderick. His opening talk was about how the movie was made. war games The policy caught the attention of President Ronald Reagan in 1983, which led to dialogue with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and, in turn, new policies for the nation's telecommunications and computer security.
Next up was Hugh Thompson, Executive Chair of RSAC and Program Chair of the RSA Conference. He outlined the highlights of the conference program, highlighting the “power of community” and how when we work together, we can do more than we imagine as an industry.
Other sessions that I really liked included:
- “The Time Is Now: Redefining Security in the Age of AI” by Jeetu Patel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco
Mr Patel's comments included: “A state of abundance becomes a reality by doing a little more with a little less effort.”
Also:
“Our ability to extend human capabilities [grow exponentially] In scale and capacity. ”
What's difficult? His three new developments will help: AI, kernel-level visibility, and hardware acceleration. Patel argues that to be able to compete with attackers in the future, AI must be used natively in core infrastructure, rather than as an “add-on.”
- Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivers keynote speech at RSA Conference 2024
- Securing AI: What we’ve learned and what lies ahead — Vasu Jakkal, Corporate Vice President, Security Business, Microsoft: “We live in the most complex threat environment in history.”
There are many other great RSAC keynotes available to watch on the RSAC channel on YouTube.
More coverage and RSA priorities
The power of stories and media coverage was strong in many RSA sessions this week. Here are some notable examples, including new product announcements and new features for existing products.
SC media: RSAC 2024: Attendees focus on AI, mobile, and threat telemetry
“With more than 40,000 official attendees and an estimated 40,000 others who come to San Francisco before or after RSAC but do not attend the event, RSAC attracts a large and curious crowd. AI remains a hot topic, and while most vendors have their own take on it and understand how it applies to their solution stacks, CISOs and practitioners have their own views on it. We are increasing our understanding of how AI can be used to achieve

And during the RSA conference, the following (bad) article about Apple's new advertising ran:

final thoughts
On a personal level, I found the 2024 RSA Conference to be more impactful and interesting than I expected. While attending Public Sector Day on Monday, a group of Presidio colleagues and I had a great conversation with RSA CEO Rohit Ghai (see photo at left). These industry exchanges and networking opportunities are truly amazing.
We also have many opportunities to meet with top security leaders, including CISOs and CIOs from across the country, such as Michael McStman, Interim CIO and Director of Technology for the City and County of San Francisco. GT List of Top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and Drivers of 2024.
The conventional wisdom was that RSAC was in decline, might even need to reinvent itself, and might even leave San Francisco in the future. Big cyber companies like Palo Alto Networks and several others weren't on the show floor. Nevertheless, the attendees and session content were top-notch and, in my opinion, even eye-opening.
I was able to meet with the world's media on various topics in cybersecurity, and everyone wanted to discuss generative AI and its impact on cybersecurity in both cyber-attack and defense areas.
We encourage our readers to watch the RSAC 2024 keynote on the YouTube link provided. In doing so, you will see how the growing influence of AI and GenAI is amplifying global cyber impact in all areas of life.
