BOISE – The Idaho Department of Insurance (DOI) is monitoring the disruption to health care services caused by a recent cyber attack on Change Healthcare. Change Healthcare, a company owned by UnitedHealth Group and used by many hospitals and health care providers in Idaho, experienced a cyberattack on February 21, 2024. This has resulted in delays for some patients in getting medical pre-authorizations, appeals, and claims processed.
DOI is asking all health insurance companies in Idaho to find ways to assist their members and providers who are affected by this issue. This may include providing alternative methods for submitting required information or temporarily suspending certain requirements that may cause delays.
DOI also asked these insurance companies to:
- Update website and prepare documents Explain how affected members can get help during this time.
- Insurers must: Post clear contact information regarding this issueSo providers, members, and DOI can communicate as needed, and we all work together to recover from a cyberattack.
“Cybersecurity incidents are a matter of very serious concern, and we are working with insurance companies to ensure consumers are protected,” said Dean L. Cameron, director of the Idaho Department of Insurance. states. “We hope that Idahoans will contact our department if they experience delays in care or coverage due to this disruption to Change Health Care Services.”
