At the beginning of every new year, we're treated to a flurry of video game award shows and shows celebrating the past year's accomplishments. But there is one event that truly immortalizes gaming history. It is the World Video Game Hall of Fame.The award, established to recognize the most influential video games of all time, was announced yesterday by the original resident evila game that left an indelible mark on the gaming industry, is now a finalist in the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
Sponsored by the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, the event is open to the public to have their say. Twelve finalists have been announced. Now it's your turn to vote on these games. The top three matches from the public vote will be voted on along with other selections by the selection committee. This year's Hall of Fame inductees will be announced on May 9, 2024.
Started in 2015, there are currently 40 games inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame, which generally span all genres, but are essentially lacking in horror. Some people, including myself, argue that: The Last of UsSurvival horror games will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, and this year is the year we finally get to see a giant of the genre inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“It wasn’t the first horror video game, but resident evil (or resident evil (as it is known in Japan) was the first game to popularize the “survival horror” genre. It was created by game director Shinji Mikami and released by Capcom in 1996. resident evil spawned a multi-billion dollar media franchise while also helping to prove that video games could provide mature entertainment to older teenagers and adults. As of 2022, movies based on the series have collectively grossed over $1.2 billion. ”
