The World Figure Skating Championships will be broadcast on NBC, USA Network, and peacock It starts in Montreal on Wednesday.
The U.S. team includes reigning world ice dance champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates, as well as Ilia Marin, the world's top-ranked male single skater.
Marinin, who last season became the first skater to land a quadruple axel in competition, has already won his biggest senior international title to date this season – at the Grand Prix Final in December – and in January became the national champion again.
Marinin, who won the world bronze medal last year at the age of 18, will face Japan's Shoma Uno, who is aiming for his third consecutive title. Marinin won her first head-to-head matchup against Uno in her most recent match, the Grand Prix Final.
Another Japanese star, Kaori Sakamoto, is aiming for her third straight victory in the women's event to cap off an undefeated season.
She could become the first woman to win three consecutive world titles since American Peggy Fleming from 1966-68.
Kaori Sakamoto will attempt her first feat in 56 years at the World Figure Skating Championships.
The past two U.S. champions, Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levitt, are ranked 14th and 3rd in the world, respectively, for their best total scores this season. In last year's senior world debut, Levit placed 4th and Glenn 12th.
In ice dancing, Chock, 31, and Bates, 35, won their first world title last year in their 12th season together. They became the oldest gold medalists in the event and only the second American couple to win.
This year, they could cap off their first undefeated season with a world title. It may be their last tournament. Chock and Bates, who are set to marry in June, are progressing in their skating careers season by season and have not yet committed to competing in the 2026 Olympics.
Madison Chock and Evan Bates will be aiming for their second consecutive world title this week in Montreal. They spoke to NBC about their goals, long and successful careers, and their time as a couple off the ice.
In terms of pairs, the U.S. roster is missing Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier. They won silver and gold at the last two world championships and have been away from competition ever since.
Japan's Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara are the defending champions.
