Since the boat was seized after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, its upkeep and other related costs have been transferred to the U.S. government, which is paying a significant amount of money to keep it running.
The superyacht Amadea is 348 feet long and valued at approximately $325 million. It can accommodate 16 guests and 36 crew members and features a helipad, infinity pool, and multiple bars.
According to court filings obtained by CNN and reviewed by KING 5, the superyacht will have running costs of $600,000 per month, plus a “pro-rated insurance fee” of $144,000 per month. According to prosecutors in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), regularly required dry docks add an additional $178,000 based on the total cost divided by the number of months the boat is in government storage.
In March, when SDNY prosecutors filed a motion to sell the superyacht, the boat's total cost was estimated at about $922,000 per month. Even excluding dry docking costs, it costs about $8.9 million to control a superyacht for one year.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement on May 5, 2022, that the boat was formally seized by Fijian authorities at the behest of the US government. Assuming the boat had been in custody for 23 months at the time, as prosecutors wrote in a March legal filing, the total cost of owning and operating the boat through March 1 was approximately $21.2 million. becomes.
