Horror film studio Blumhouse has marked its entry into the gaming industry with the announcement of six games.
Blumhouse founder Jason Blum appeared at Summer Game Fest to unveil trailers showcasing the first six Blumhouse Games titles.
Blumhouse describes the six games featured as follows:
Afraid of the Spotlight (Cozy Game Pals)
“An eerie love letter to classic teen horror stories from the '90s, Fear the Spotlight is designed for modern audiences. Sneak into the school after hours with Vivian and Amy, survive a botched séance, solve tactile puzzles and uncover the disturbing mystery behind a decades-old school tragedy. And whatever you do, be sure to stay out of the spotlight. Fear the Spotlight is due to release later this year, and fans can wishlist the game here.”
Crisol: Idol Theatre (Vermira)
“Dive into a unique first-person horror adventure set in a nightmarish Spain where folklore and religion intertwine. You will navigate a world filled with eerie legends and sacred rituals, and come face to face with terrifying statues of saints brought to life. In a desperate fight for survival, you will have to sacrifice your own blood as ammunition against the terror that lurks around every corner.”
Grave Season (perfect trash)
“An engaging pixelated farming and town simulation game. In between building relationships and harvesting crops, players must discover which of their townsfolk is the supernatural serial killer. Uncover Ashenridge's hidden secrets and discover how to stay one step ahead of the killer… and maybe save the next victim.”
Sleepless night (awake)
“Corey Davis (Spec Ops: The Line) and Robin Fink (Nine Inch Nails) deliver first-person psychedelic horror set in the distant future. In the last remaining city on Earth, people are disappearing while they sleep. The survivors live on the brink of reckless experiments to stay awake. Katya must overcome a corrupt death cult, otherworldly forces, and the ever-present terror of The Hush to save herself and those counting on her.”
Simulation (Playmestudio)
“The only evidence found at a crime scene is a never-before-seen horror game. As a retired game designer hired to investigate the case, you find a hidden mod and dive into a world unknown. As more obscure games are uncovered, you step beyond the fourth wall of that world and into the depths of a terrifying truth that goes beyond reality…”
Project C (Half Mermaid)
“An ambitious game from the minds of Sam Barlow (Her Story, IMMORTALITY) and Brandon Cronenberg (Possessor, Infinity Pool). Prepare to be blown away by Half Mermaid's most twisted vision to date.”
“Blumhouse Games is the new home of horror,” the company added in a statement.
“We partner with independent development teams around the world to create unique, spine-chilling experiences across console, PC and mobile. Our games span a variety of genres, each offering a unique and terrifying portrayal of the horror universe.”
“The good news is that horror is becoming more and more popular,” Blum said onstage during the presentation.
“We want to apply our film approach to games, and that’s what we have here.
“We're going to make indie games, find creators, give them a platform, encourage them to be weird and subversive, and find the best, worst and most horrifying things we can and put them into a really cool game.”
