This advisory question asks voters whether the village should abolish township government.
HOMERGLEN, Ill. — Should township government continue in Homer Glen? That's the question voters will be asked on Tuesday's primary ballot.
The advisory question reads: “Should the Village of Homer Glen take appropriate action and pursue appropriate efforts to potentially dissolve or abolish the town government?”

This question pertains only to Homer Glen and Homer Township, and not to other areas served by the township, such as parts of New Lenox, Lemont, and Lockport.
“This is to determine if the residents would like the village to consider removing the village from the township,” Mayor Christina Neitzke Troike told Patch last year.
“It's time to ask, 'Does the township need another layer of government?'” Trustee Sue Steilen previously said. “There are 24 townships in Will County alone. Illinois is known for having more government agencies than any other state. At some point, we, the residents and people of Illinois, came forward and said, We have to say, enough is enough, we need to abolish some townships.'' These layers of government. ”
In October, Homer Township Supervisor Steve Barich told Patch the Township, “We will do the village a favor and begin the process of separating all property from the Village of Homer Glen.” .
However, one trustee in October expressed concerns about whether township abolition was constitutional in Illinois.
In 2019, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law a municipal consolidation bill that allows “any township within McHenry County to be dissolved by petition.” This law applied only to McHenry County. In 2023, a judge ruled the law unconstitutional because it only applied to one county.
