A day after Greenville's license plate agency closed, people were still coming to the door unaware that it was locked indefinitely.
It was a bittersweet day for the people at the license plate agency on Stantonsburg Road as they packed up their bags and left the office for the last time.
For those who came through the door today wanting to do business…they had questions.
Contractor James Locks said he signed a temporary contract with the agency in 2020…which was terminated after four years.
Marty Homan, communications manager for the automotive services division, said he began a search for a permanent replacement and was notified of Rox's termination on April 2.
Not only were the locks replaced, but all employees who previously worked at the License Plate Agency on Stantonsburg Road were also on the same contract.
That's about it…I guess my contract will be terminated…It's sad to be in a predicament of unemployment…It's very sad.
Homan said Rocks' successor will come from another DMV location on North Creek Drive in the near future.
The DMV on North Creek Drive is 16 miles from the agency…the next closest location is in Farmville on North Main Street…18 miles away.
Rocks said his agency is currently able to provide more entitlement services than the DMV on North Creek Drive, and worries residents will be left with more questions than answers. .
It will be difficult for people in the surrounding areas to receive these services now that we are closed, as our other offices in Greenville do not currently offer them, but we will bring it back to Greenville. Once they decide to do so, hopefully they will be served.
When I spoke with a DMV representative, I was told that there is no set date for when the DMV will reopen.
