Monday, March 18, 2024The Osseo City Council approved funding for what some consider to be one of the best deals for youth sports.
The city is partnering with Twin Cities-based Revolution Sports to pay about $1,100 in grants for summer youth sports programs. Families with children ages 3 to 10 can sign up for her four-week sessions, and residents pay less than $50 and non-residents pay less than $60.
“I think this is a great asset for Osseo residents and residents outside of Osseo,” Osseo City Councilmember Ashley Moller said during this week's City Council meeting.
Moller said similar programs in other cities could cost three times as much.
“We appreciate the hard work we have done to maintain affordability for both residents and non-residents,” Mueller said.
The vote to approve the program was unanimous.
Osseo City Councilman Mark Schultz said the cost of youth sports programs is “a drop in the bucket” compared to the cost of programs the city offers to seniors.
“When you think about the nature of this particular program, when you think about who this is serving, our families, young families, I think it's important to be fair,” Schultz said. Stated.
The 2024 Osseo Youth Sports Program begins in May and continues through early August. Registration is in progress.
All programs are held on Monday and Wednesday nights at Sipe Park in Osseo. Sports offered include soccer, tennis, baseball, and basketball.
