Park Hills
The Park Hills City Council began this week with six bills, but three were tabled and one was withdrawn due to significant disagreement among council members.
One of the ordinances, which sets out where the council will meet in the near future, was approved on first reading by all current councilors. City Council meetings are held in the City Council Chambers on the upper floor of City Hall on Amsterdam Avenue.
Another ordinance would allow police officers who have taken 360 hours of sick leave to exchange some of that sick time for money. Chief Cody Stanley said the program is only available to two crew members and one is retiring, so not everyone can participate. Council members left the first reading as is, but indicated that some changes may be needed in the second reading.
Jay Beyer and Kate Dillenberger of Beyer and Becker gave a presentation on the possibility of conducting a study to install sidewalks on Dixie Highway from North Arlington to Grays Peak. . To Covington. The study is expected to cost $22,730. Sidewalk and roadway legislative projects include typical driveway and sidewalk sections, roadway and sidewalk plans, and site plans for parking and access modifications.
The bill will be reintroduced at the City Council meeting in May.
lakeside park
Lakeside Park City Council members heard the first reading of an ordinance that would increase salaries for the mayor and council members. Salary changes must be made by the first Monday in her May prior to the election. For Congress, that will be a month away in May of this year. The mayoral election will be held in 2026, so time only matters for the mayor in May 2026.
City council members currently receive $1,680 a year, but the proposal is to increase that to $2,000 a year starting in January 2025 after the election. Council members proposed to the mayor a raise from $5,100 to $8,000 starting in January 2027. The mayor's job is part-time, but the city doesn't have a city manager, so more work is needed for the mayor.
There was no vote because it was the first reading, but the salary amount was left blank in the original bill, so the amount was tentatively determined through discussions between councilors and the mayor. A special session would be needed to get the bill a second reading by the May deadline, at which time the final numbers would be included in the bill.
City Council observed the first reading of an ordinance creating a rental registry for landlords in the city. This ordinance also includes property laws and health and safety laws.
The city said it must have contact information for all property owners in case of emergencies or complaints. They experienced some difficulty contacting some property owners through multiple companies.
Another first reading of the ordinance would amend the city's list of nuisances.
A second reading of both ordinances is scheduled for the May 13th meeting.
