A new life sim inspired by Studio Ghibli films has been discovered on Steam.
Starsand Island, discovered by Gematsu, arrives on Steam on Monday, and players travel to a seaside town to start a new life.
The game, which makes its inspiration clear in its Steam description, is called a “Ghibli-inspired paradise island” and is scheduled for release in late 2025.
Little is known about the developer, Creativision Studio, but based on a Twitter account established for the game in 2021 (suggesting it's been in development for a while) and a similar logo, appears to be based in South Korea.
“Starsand Island is more than just a game. It's a journey of the soul,” the game's description says.
“I find myself among warm sunshine, soft sandy beaches, lush meadows, peaceful windmills, friendly townspeople, loving dolphins, vibrant coral, cozy cabins, and lively squirrels. Imagine that.
“This is an island world inspired by Ghibli's whimsical style, where you can shake off the burdens of reality and enjoy the peace and beauty of your own personal paradise.”
According to Creativision, there will be over 40 NPCs throughout the game, each with a backstory to reveal.
“You may find a meaningful relationship and find a life partner,” it says. “These residents respond to your every move with daily greetings and care, giving the island community a real sense of belonging and the warmth of home.
“Choose the perfect spot between the mountains and the sea to build your dream home. Construction is more than just bricks and mortar, it's a canvas for creativity.
“Whether it's designing a mural, customizing sound, or programming interactive props, you have the freedom to express yourself and create your own space.”
Some elements of the game may need to be changed before release. The first trailer shows the player watching a television, where the copyrighted shows Tom and Jerry, Doraemon, and Crayon Shin-chan are being shown.
