“Geometry Survivor” video game play. (Brain Seal Limited/Contributed)
After Vampire Survivors made a huge splash in the indie scene, it's no surprise that a wave of copies emerged that put their own spin on the formula. “Geometry Survivor” is one of his copies that ditched its twin-stick shooting roots and tried something new.
Like other auto-shooter survival games, this game is all about your character unleashing attacks in a timed loop while avoiding enemies and upgrading your weapons. It shares the same visual design as the old “Geometry Wars” games, and while the gameplay looks similar at first, it feels very different. It's fun to sneak past enemies and get weapons like drones, black holes, and beams. You can also unlock permanent upgrades using currency collected in the game.
The game isn't too difficult, so it's possible to survive for 20 minutes after playing for a few hours. It's a good introduction to this genre.
The main problem with this game is the lack of replayability. Although you can unlock other ships which change some gameplay elements, the game still feels very limited as there is only one level. Once you beat the game, you're almost done, but there isn't enough variety to keep playing.
Although the game can be purchased for just a few dollars, players inevitably compare it to the more diverse Vampire Survivor. Is it worth the money? Of course, but if you want to play a game like this, you need to consider that there are better games out there.
The game is fun, but I wish there was a new “Geometry Wars” game. The last notable release was in 2014, which is similar but not the same. I understand that some people would want to take the series in a new direction, but the hard truth is that there are better survival games out there, and unless we add a significant amount of new content to them for free, our competitors will This means that you cannot compete with it. .
If you're someone who's played every other survival game to death and you need something new, Geometry Survivor will get the job done. If you're a fan of the series and want another Geometry Wars, this is it.
This game needs more content to be replayable. Otherwise, it's only worth a few hours before dropping it for another purpose. “Geometry Survivor” gives him 3 out of 5 stars.
