San Angelo, Texas —
Angelo State University hosted the 2024 Youth Cybersecurity Workshop and Expo on April 5th.
The expo connects teachers, parents, and students with leaders in cybersecurity and education programs. This year, Col. Christopher Corbett, deputy commander of the U.S. Air Force's 17th Training Wing, was invited to address attendees.
Mr. Corbett spoke about the importance of cybersecurity and how students should take advantage of the opportunities their schools provide. He detailed why his computer science career field is essential to the military and the rest of the world.
“There are keys to success that are very important to cyberspace practitioners,” Corbett said. “Never underestimate the benefits of growing up in San Angelo. These attributes that are distilled into our students are initiative, drive, grit, and determination. It also helps you succeed. So when you fail, fail forward.”
Participating in a program like this opens doors of opportunity for individuals who want to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
