Depreciation and restructuring
According to PocketGamer.biz, Gearbox's $460 million sale reflects a significant write-down from the potential $1.3 billion Embracer acquired in 2021. According to a report on the B2B site, Embracer required him to pay $363 million upfront to acquire the studio, of which $175 million was paid in Embracer stock. The remaining potential acquisition cost will be determined based on performance.
PocketGamer said the sale of Gearbox after three years was part of Embracer's restructuring, which was stepped up after the group's share price fell 45% last spring. PocketGamer added that Embracer has laid off 1,400 staff across the studio.
